"She grew up in the rolling hills of Appalachia where she roamed the forests that would eventually inform her art"
Jessica McClanahan grew up in the rolling hills of Appalachia where she roamed the forests that would later inform her work. She has always had a keen interest in the natural world, and how interconnected it is. This interest has manifested itself in the form visual arts.
Ceramics is her chosen medium because of its direct ties to the earth, and its endless possibilities.
She currently travels across the country pursuing an education in ceramics through various schools and programs to pursue a future as an art professor. She graduated from West Virginia State University with her Bachelors in Arts, and will begin a ceramics assistantship for Josh Copus in July. She has worked for The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, The Contemporary American Theater Festival, West Virginia State University’s art department, and Apartment Earth Art Gallery. She has shown in several galleries in Charleston and has been an emerging artist for the The Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling WV.
